Media Digitization & Video Editing Services in Austin
Old tapes, film reels, and photo collections have a shelf life. The recordings survive the decades; the formats that play them back do not.
Austin Video Solutions converts aging analog media — VHS, Hi8, 8mm film, slides, audio cassettes, and more — into modern digital files for watching, sharing, editing, and long-term preservation. The studio also handles custom video editing: finished tribute videos, highlight reels, documentary cuts, family archive compilations, and business content built around your actual footage.
Whether you want an easy MP4 for family viewing, a ProRes master for editing, or a finished tribute video built from decades of footage, we help you choose the right path with clear format guidance and local handling.
Austin Video Solutions is a local studio built for customers who care about careful handling, useful file formats, and results that remain useful after the transfer is done.

What We Do
Austin Video Solutions offers two core types of service:
1. Digitization & Preservation
We convert analog media into modern digital formats for viewing, sharing, editing, and archiving.
2. Custom Editing & Finishing
We take raw footage, photos, and newly digitized media and shape it into polished final videos for real-world use.
That means you can work with one studio from start to finish — from tape, film, or photo scanning all the way to a finished tribute, highlight reel, documentary cut, or family keepsake.
📼 Tape to Digital Conversion
We digitize VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, Video8, Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, Betamax, U-matic, and other legacy videotape formats using professional playback decks and quality-focused capture workflows.
Each tape is played on the appropriate deck, monitored for signal stability, and delivered in a format that fits your actual workflow. For standard MP4 delivery, that means 1440×1080, 59.94 fps, H.264 — deinterlaced for smooth motion and formatted to fit a modern television at the correct 4:3 aspect ratio with no stretching or cropping. That formatting is included in the standard transfer; it is a faithful capture and correct resizing of what is on the tape, not AI upscaling. AI/ML upscaling is available as a separate, quoted service. For archive or editing use, ProRes and lossless workflows preserve more of the original signal for later restoration or color work.
Most tape projects are completed in 1–3 business days after drop-off.
Choose the right output:
- Tape to MP4 — best for watching on phones, laptops, Smart TVs, and sharing with family
- Tape to ProRes — best for editing, color work, documentary use, and long-term master files
- Tape to Lossless — best for archival preservation, restoration, and maximum-quality source capture
- Tape to DVD — best for customers who still want a physical disc for living room playback
Best for: family archives, home movies, TV playback, editing projects, documentary source footage, preservation masters
🎞️ 8mm & Super 8 Film Scanning
Film deserves better than a basic projector-style transfer.
Our frame-by-frame 2K film scanning captures each individual frame of your 8mm or Super 8 reel. Each reel is inspected before scanning and prepared for modern viewing and long-term preservation.
We inspect, scan, and prepare film for modern viewing and long-term preservation — whether you want simple MP4 files for family access or source material for a future editing project.
Best for: home movie reels, fragile film collections, documentary footage, family preservation
📸 Photo, Slide & Negative Scanning
Shoeboxes of prints and trays of slides do not need to stay trapped in closets.
We hand-scan photos, slides, and negatives one at a time for cleaner results and safer handling than bulk auto-feeder systems. This service is ideal for preserving family albums, creating digital backups, building slideshow projects, or preparing old images for restoration and video editing.
Available outputs can include standard viewing files or higher-quality archival formats depending on your project.
We scan:
- Printed photos
- 35mm slides
- 35mm negatives
- 110 / 120 / 220 / medium format materials
- Selected oversized items by request
Best for: family photo preservation, tribute videos, anniversary projects, digital backup, restoration prep
🎵 Audio Digitization
Some memories live in sound, not pictures.
We convert audio cassettes, microcassettes, and MiniDiscs into clean digital files for listening, preservation, or inclusion in larger editing projects. Standard cassette transfers include basic cleanup — hiss reduction, noise reduction, and level balancing. Advanced restoration is quoted separately.
This service is especially useful for oral histories, voice recordings, interviews, family messages, and legacy audio collections that deserve a more accessible format.
Active audio formats: Audio cassette — Microcassette — MiniDisc

🎬 Professional Video Editing
Digitizing your media is only part of the job.
Most people do not want raw files dumped onto a drive. They want something finished — a tribute that holds together, a highlight reel that gets attention quickly, or a family film someone will actually sit down and watch.
That's where our editing work comes in.
Austin Video Solutions creates custom edited videos from tapes, photos, film scans, phone footage, camera files, and digital archives. Memorial tributes, anniversary projects, sports recruiting reels, family compilations, documentary cuts, business content, and social clips are built around your actual goal.
Common editing projects include:
- Memorial and tribute videos
- Anniversary and love story videos
- Athletic highlight reels
- Graduation and retirement videos
- Family "best of" reels from long raw footage
- YouTube and social media edits
- Business promos, testimonials, and event recaps
- Photo slideshow videos with titles and music
What editing can include:
- Clip selection and sequencing
- Pacing and story shaping
- Titles, names, captions, and on-screen text
- Music placement
- Color correction
- Audio cleanup and balancing
- Multiple export versions when needed
- Collaboration remotely or in-studio
This is one of the biggest advantages of working with us: your footage can move directly from analog media or messy folders into a finished, shareable project without needing multiple vendors.
Best for: customers who want more than raw files, memorial services, celebrations, social content, business storytelling, sports recruiting reels

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between MP4, ProRes, and Lossless?
MP4 is for watching and sharing — it plays on almost everything. ProRes is a higher-quality editing format used by professionals. Lossless preserves maximum quality for archival or restoration. We help you pick the right one at your appointment.
Can you digitize my tapes and then edit them into a video?
Yes. Many projects start with tape or film transfers and end as a finished edited video — memorial tributes, highlight reels, family compilations. We handle the whole pipeline.
Can you help me figure out which service I actually need?
Yes. Many customers know what they have — tapes, film reels, photos, or digital footage — but are not sure which output or workflow makes the most sense. That's exactly what the appointment is for. We help you choose the right service based on how you want to watch, edit, share, or preserve the final result.
How long does tape digitization take?
Most tape projects are completed in 1–3 business days. Larger tape collections, film scanning, photo scanning, and editing projects are confirmed at drop-off.
Do you work with businesses, not just families?
Yes. We handle corporate video projects, event recaps, training material transfers, and business promo editing alongside our consumer work.
Not Sure What You Need Yet?
Most people know what they have — VHS tapes, camcorder footage, film reels, old photos, raw clips — but are not sure which output or workflow makes the most sense. That is exactly what the appointment is for.
We'll help you identify formats, explain your options, and recommend the right service path for your goals, timeline, and how you actually plan to use the files.
