About Austin Video Solutions

Owner-operated media digitization & video editing in South Austin.

You're in good hands.

Austin Video Solutions is a private, owner-operated media digitization and video editing studio in South Austin, TX 78748. Since 2011, it has helped families, filmmakers, and businesses convert aging tapes, film, photos, and audio into clean, modern digital files — and turn those materials into finished edited videos when the project calls for it.

The work is handled by one person, start to finish. Not a franchise, not a warehouse team, not a rotating staff. The owner-operator who receives your media is the person who captures it, monitors the quality, prepares the files, and returns it to you.

A Different Kind of Transfer Studio

Austin Video Solutions exists as a local, appointment-only alternative to shipping-based transfer services and one-size-fits-all workflows.

Some clients want a simple MP4 they can watch tonight. Others need Apple ProRes masters for an edit, lossless files for long-term preservation, or a finished tribute video built from a mix of old tapes, photos, film, and music.

The studio is built to give people a careful, flexible, professional local option — matching the workflow and final output to the actual goal rather than pushing every project through the same pipeline.

What Austin Video Solutions Does

Austin Video Solutions handles two core kinds of work:

Media Digitization

Videotape transfer, film scanning, photo and negative digitization, audio transfer, and delivery in formats suited for playback, editing, sharing, or archival preservation.

Custom Video Editing

Finished projects created from digitized media, photos, music, and digital footage — memorial tributes, anniversary videos, family compilations, athletic highlight reels, social edits, and business content.

Many clients use both sides together. A collection of tapes or photos becomes clean digital files, and those materials can be shaped into a finished video worth watching, sharing, and keeping.

The Person Behind the Work

Austin Video Solutions is run by owner-operator Benjamin Dotto — Ben in everyday conversation.

Ben has worked hands-on with analog video since the 1980s, covering the consumer tape formats that came through the market during those decades: VHS, Hi8, Video8, Digital8, MiniDV, Betamax, and more.

Austin Video Solutions launched professionally in 2011. Since then, the studio has handled thousands of projects for clients across Central Texas — families preserving irreplaceable recordings, professionals needing archival masters, and businesses that need video edited and delivered.

What that background means for you: when your tapes arrive, someone with real format experience handles the transfer. The result is cleaner and more reliable because the judgment behind the process is real.

Why Clients Trust Austin Video Solutions

One person from intake through delivery

The owner-operator who receives your project at drop-off is the same person who captures it, monitors the quality, prepares the files, and returns it to you.

Professional-grade capture and signal handling

Analog tape is not plug-and-play. Each format has tracking tolerances, signal characteristics, and degradation patterns. Professional playback, time-base correction where appropriate, and monitoring are part of the workflow.

File options that match the project

MP4 for easy sharing and playback. Apple ProRes 422 for editing and color work. 10-bit uncompressed 4:2:2 archival master where appropriate.

Digitization and editing under one roof

Many projects begin as a box of old media and end as a finished video. Keeping transfer and editing in one studio reduces handoffs and improves continuity.

Private, appointment-only handling

The studio is not a public storefront. Clients hand their media directly to the person doing the work, which means direct communication and a clear chain of custody.

Experience when projects get complicated

Experience matters most with weak tape signal, tracking issues, fragile film, mixed-media memorial projects, and preservation jobs where output format matters.

Privacy, Handling & Studio Environment

Austin Video Solutions operates as a private, appointment-only studio in South Austin, TX 78748 — near S. 1st St & FM 1626 / Akins High School. Open by appointment, Monday through Sunday, 8 AM – 5 PM. Book online 24/7, and when you arrive, you work directly with the specialist handling your project.

During transfer, Ben monitors the technical side of the capture: picture stability, tracking, audio levels, dropped frames, and signal integrity. Personal recordings stay personal.

What that looks like for clients:

  • Originals go directly to the person handling the project
  • Work is not outsourced to another facility
  • Communication stays direct and local throughout
  • Local working copies are removed from AVS production storage after delivery and project wrap-up
  • Questions about how your project files are handled can be discussed at drop-off

Privacy here is a natural result of how a one-person, appointment-only studio operates.

How It Works

3

Handled in-house

Your media is digitized, scanned, organized, or edited according to the workflow that fits the job. Quality is monitored throughout.

4

Pick up originals and digital files, receive cloud delivery, or continue into editing and review if the project includes post-production.

Why Clients Return

For most clients, the first project starts with a single box of tapes, a deadline, or a question about what to do with old media no one wants to throw away.

What brings them back is simpler: the work was done carefully, the files were what they needed, and the person they dealt with was direct and accountable. No surprises, no awkward handoffs, no wondering who handled their media.
